Originally the High Sheriff would prepare for the Assizes, including accommodation and transport for Her Majesty's Judges and to attend upon and entertain them whilst in his County. The High Court Judges heard cases for both criminal and civil matters. The Courts Act of 1971 abolished Assizes and established Crown Courts in their place, and the day to day responsibility for the arrangement of Courts is now undertaken by the Circuit Administrator. |
